Steffen is from the southwest of Germany and one of the last German engineers to dedicate himself to one of the oldest trades, the black art, or the printing industry in the digital age. One focus of his is art reproduction. In doing so, he has developed his own original style by creating unique prints on transparencies and combining them with a vast variety of different materials, including wood, stone, plaster, glass and metals. Technically speaking, the process is called FineART printing and laminating technology. He uses materials he comes across while out photographing, traversing unknown or forgotten urban terrain, places most people find strange and inaccessible... Industrial areas, urban wastelands, bunkers, cellars... areas that will soon be demolished or become obliterated to make way for new construction. But Berlin's parks and nature reserves are also destinations he photographs.
